India’s stealthy Official Secrets Act is meant to protect our country from spies that will expose our intelligence secrets and infiltrators that will disrupt our national security. But the Act itself is older than India and has continued, unchanged, since colonial times. Such a law made sense when secrecy was important for the British Empire to protect itself from India’s firebrand freedom fighters. But what do we still need such a dictatorial law for? Does our Government still think it’s under attack?
