On January 9, 2019, Dr. Shah Faesal, a top IAS officer in Jammu and Kashmir, and head of the Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Corporation, announced his resignation via social media. The news was carried by national and international media in different publications.
I believe it is a matter of concern that a top IAS Officer resigned.
Although Faesal himself has expressed the reason behind his resignation, in my opinion, dirty politics have forced him to resign. Whereas his honesty and dedication should have served as an example to all other officers. I believe that in India, anyone who fails in the private sector, or doesn’t have any other work options, joins politics or media, as both have become a den of irresponsibility. These days everyone has lost their trust in the media and politicians as both are sailing in the same boat.
After expressing my personal views about Dr. Faesal’s resignation, I asked my colleagues about theirs and each one had their own opinion.
A friend, while expressing his personal views on the resignation, told me about an incident that happened while he was accompanying a delegation and a political leader to the Civil Secretariat. Upon reaching there, the politician forced a top IAS officer to get some work done by speaking to him very harshly. I believe that it is possible that a similar incident might have prompted Faesal’s resignation.
Scores of activists have expressed their views on the resignation, and many have written columns about it, but a column written by renowned socio-political activist Junaid Malik, titled “Shah Faesal; The monk who sold his Safari”, stands out.
I strongly believe that the main reason behind the resignation is corruption and dirty politics; especially given the fact that he has publicly talked about transparency and a free environment for all people on several occasions and asked the youth to join a mass movement to get rid of corrupt mafia from society.
At the launching ceremony of his own political party, Shah Faesal said that he had been pushed by the youth of his home state to begin this journey, in order to ensure that everyone’s voices could be heard.
In short, Dr. Shah Faesal is a visionary and strong-minded personality whose decision to resign couldn’t be challenged.
