Our Vote Is Simply A Delusion Of Being Powerful For A Day

So 2019 election results are around the corner. Things are heating up. Polling has started in various phases. People are reaching out to news channels. Every vote is a beacon of democracy and power, which positions the public as the mai-baap for a few months.

But, will anything really change? Do we really have any power? A vote is always given to a party, never to a person. No person stands for a second time from the same place. Why is that? Probably because he is too shy to take credit for his work done, or none done!

But then we need to address a crucial question- what can we, the normal public, do? We should vote, right? That’s what everyone says. But is that enough? We think that we can change the government. But I don’t think that is true. It’s the people who have the moolah and the media, who win elections and do as they please. We hold no value in their goals and objectives. We are just ‘one vote’ which they somehow manage to acquire, deluding us to feel powerful for a month.

After elections, we are nothing more than an insurance policy which gives returns after five years without any investments. Just look around yourself, do you ever feel excited about the election process? For most people, it’s a holiday. Others, who are living in a fool’s paradise, like to believe they’ve become valuable for a day. You know maximum participation in elections comes from the villages and the poor section, as for them it is their only chance to experience equality. Because social and economic equality, and for that matter even political equality in other matters, is nowhere near like fundamental rights laid down in our constitution.

I think the time has come for the youth to join politics, even if they have to be funded, as money will be required for common people to make a mark for themselves above the corrupt political leaders of our country and the rich industrialists.

It is only fair to count on the youth to rise above caste, religion, gender etc; at least on some of them. Time has come for them to take control of things. It is important we encourage our youth to lead by example to encourage inclusive participation.
