#Elections2019: Why Do Differing Opinions Have To End In Disharmony?

It has been more than a week since the electoral verdict of India came out with a huge mandate in favor of BJP.

The vote share was almost 41%.  This means 59% voters gave their mandate to other parties and not necessarily to the INC.  Well, does that mean there are two groups in the country? No, not at all! The nation is one but with varied opinions. This is true that people who voted in favor of BJP had their own reasons like anti-incumbency, weak opposition, etc. In the same way, people who did not vote for BJP had reasons of their own. Some people believed that the ground of Hindutva was a strong reason to vote and some took that as the reason for not voting.

Even after the verdict, people are free to go with the idea of not supporting the BJP and that’s their democratic right. Why should there be personal attacks, cyber bullying, and abuse? Many people believe that this was not a democratic win and many believe it was. And, the reality is , both viewpoints are right because they have reasons for the same. Some say they wanted freedom from dynastic politics. Others wanted hyper-nationalism to triumph. Viewpoints are bound to differ. Disagreements will always be there. So what’s the solution?

It is simple. Instead of imposing one’s belief on others, let’s understand and acknowledge why and how the other side is significant as well. I am sure not all of us have the agenda of simply criticising the government and not all of us are in favor of demeaning the minorities.

Our roles as citizens aren’t just limited to voting. It is our collective right and responsibility to question the government for an unusual and apparently wrong move. We must not forget that at the end of the day, all of us are nothing but Indians. Communal disharmony won’t help us in our bid to shape a better tomorrow.
